My husband promised that if I gave him a baby, he’d take care of everything. He swore I wouldn’t have to give up my career, that we’d be a team. Then our twins arrived, and suddenly I was “unrealistic” for wanting to keep the job that had been supporting our entire life.

I’m a family doctor. I spent ten years building a career that mattered—to my patients and to me. After the twins were born, I returned part-time, only to come home to chaos while my husband checked out and complained. When he told me my career was “over,” something in me went quiet.
