Posted on June 12, 2026

The sheriff’s department investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has issued an alert for a different kidnapping suspect wanted just a few miles from the 84-year-old’s Arizona home.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is searching for Coral Michelle Smith, a 40-year-old woman with a lengthy criminal record who is wanted in connection with a separate kidnapping case about seven miles from Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills, according to the New York Post.

Authorities said Smith is accused of being involved in a kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon that took place on May 29 near River Road and La Cholla Boulevard in Tucson. Investigators urged residents to be on the lookout for her but have not released further details about the case.

Officials have not suggested any connection between Smith and the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, who vanished from her home during the early morning hours of Feb. 1.

Court records show Smith has a history of arrests and convictions involving robbery, assault, vehicle theft, trespassing, and disorderly conduct. She served multiple prison sentences and was convicted of robbery in 2011 and 2019, disorderly conduct and attempted vehicle theft in 2014, criminal trespass in 2021, attempted vehicle theft in 2022, and aggravated assault causing injury in 2023.

A 2019 case also included kidnapping and drug-related charges involving a victim under the age of 15, though those charges were later dismissed.

According to local reports, Smith has used several aliases, including Coral Albright, Coral Albright-Smith, and Under The Sea Smith. Police describe her as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 136 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

She also has several distinctive tattoos, including a smiley face and heart on her right ankle, a rose with flames on her right foot, and the words “love, life, family” tattooed on her left leg.
